MASH for Mac

It's the notebook game from fifth grade, in a window on your Mac. You fill in the categories and draw a spiral with your trackpad. Then a gel pen crosses answers off until one future is left.

Version 2.0 came out on August 6, 2026, rewritten from scratch as a native Mac app. You buy it once on the Mac App Store.

How a game goes on a Mac

The rules are the same as MASH on paper. You get a bigger page and a trackpad for the spiral.

    Start a game

    Hit Play MASH and pick a length. Short is 5 questions, Medium is 10, and Long is the whole classic game. Custom lets you choose from all 21 categories.

    Colleges, spouse's car, wedding colors, ways to die. Type your answers, roll the dice when you're stuck, or search that category's whole suggestion list.

    Drag out a spiral with the trackpad or mouse, or let the app draw one. MASH counts the lines you crossed, and that's your magic number.

rebuilt from scratch

What's new in 2.0

The old Mac version ran on web tech inside an app shell, cross-compiled to JavaScript with an Objective-C bridge. It was a little slow. Version 2.0 is a real Mac app, written in SwiftUI.

    Settings lets you pick how many answers each question takes, from two all the way up to six.

  • Your name lists

    Choose which set of name suggestions shows up when a question asks for a name.

  • A passcode on Saved Stories

    Share the Mac with a younger player? Lock your stories so nobody wipes them.
