MASH Game Storyteller - Discover Your Future
It's the paper game kids played on the bus, minus the paper. Pick your options for each category - names, cars, jobs, and dwellings - then draw a spiral. The free Mansion Apartment Shack House generator counts out your number and crosses off options until one is left in each list. Screenshot the result and send it to whoever might love it or loathe it.
Thanks for playing. MASH started out as a pen-and-paper game and it still works fine that way - this version just does the counting for you.
What the browser version does for you
You still draw the spiral yourself. Everything after that is handled for you.
Press Begin a New Game and you get one question at a time, with three blanks under each. Type your own answers, or tap the arrow beside a blank to pick from a list of suggestions. If you can't be bothered, hit All Random and the game fills them in.
Then the spiral. Drag your finger or your mouse in a loop and stop wherever you like. The game counts the lines to get your magic number, then counts around your options and crosses off whatever it lands on. Watch the whole thing play out, or skip ahead to Read Your Story.
Close the tab partway through and Resume Game picks up where you left off. The question artwork is by cartoonist Scott McMahon, same as the iPhone app.
What a finished MASH story looks like
Here's a round from start to finish. Four categories, three options in each:
- Dwelling: mansion, apartment, shack, house
- Spouse: your chemistry teacher, someone you met once at a bus stop, Keanu Reeves
- Kids: none, two, eleven
- Car: a rusted Corolla, a hearse, a monster truck
The spiral came out to seven. After the counting, what survived was shack, chemistry teacher, eleven kids, hearse.
So you'll live in a shack with your old chemistry teacher and eleven children, and you'll drive them all around in a hearse. The bad outcomes are the whole point. Put at least one genuinely terrible option in every category or the game isn't worth playing.
